Editorial Guidelines

What we publish, what we reject, and the standards every G&A contributor commits to.

Editorial work powered by APOV Visual Artist via our publishing studio. Capturing alternative fashion since 2012. Sister project: IrisArtPhoto.

These editorial guidelines define what Gothic and Amazing publishes and what we never publish. They have been the foundation of the magazine since 2012 and apply to every track of the submissions portal.

What we publish

Alternative fashion editorials, in-depth interviews, designer features, brand reviews, make-up and styling tutorials, music interviews, album and live-show reviews, behind-the-scenes documentation, and long-form guest articles in the editorial line of the magazine. Photography is the backbone — every editorial we publish is built around an image and credits every contributor.

What we never publish

Horror, gore, splatter and shock imagery. Pornographic or sexually explicit content. Religious messaging, regardless of the religion. Political messaging, regardless of the political position. Content that promotes racism, antisemitism, transphobia, homophobia, ableism, fatphobia or any other form of hate. Content that diminishes minors, mocks survivors, or platforms convicted abusers. Anything that recycles uncredited material from other artists. Editorial inclusion is not for sale — pieces that look like sponsored content must be labelled as such.

Credits — non-negotiable

Every editorial we publish credits every contributor: model, photographer, designer, brand, make-up artist, hair stylist, headpiece-maker, accessories, location when relevant. Submissions without complete credits are rejected. If a credit is uncertain, ask the original photographer before submitting — never invent or guess a credit.

Image rights

Contributors retain full ownership of their work. By submitting, you grant G&A a non-exclusive editorial-use licence covering the magazine, the website and the social channels of the magazine. You confirm that every person represented (model, MUA, hair) has consented to editorial use, and that you have the right to license the work. Stock imagery without a commercial licence is never accepted.

Originality

Submissions must be original work. AI-generated imagery is accepted only when it is clearly disclosed in the credits — never as a passing-off of human photography. Edits, retouching and compositing are accepted on the standard understanding that the underlying photograph was taken by the credited photographer with the consent of every person represented.

Format and length

Editorials: 6-20 images, 200-800 words of accompanying copy. Interviews: 1500-3500 words, 4-12 illustrating images. Brand or shop reviews: 800-2000 words, 6-15 images. Make-up tutorials: step-by-step images plus 400-800 words. Music interviews: 1500-3000 words plus one approved press photograph. Length is flexible when the editorial justifies it.

Submit

Once you have read these guidelines, you can submit your work via the Submissions Portal. The portal walks you through the relevant track step-by-step.

Frequently asked questions

Do you accept AI-generated imagery?

Only when it is clearly disclosed in the credits. We never publish AI-generated work passed off as human photography.

Can I use stock photography in a submission?

Only with a verifiable commercial licence and full attribution. Stock imagery from free image banks without a clear licence is not accepted.

Why do you reject religious and political content?

Our editorial line, set on the day the magazine was created, focuses on alternative fashion and dark beauty as a subcultural space. Religious and political messaging falls outside that scope, regardless of the position.

Can I republish my editorial after it has appeared in G&A?

Yes. You retain full ownership and can cross-publish elsewhere. We appreciate a backlink to the G&A version when you do.
